Incubus rosiness to get one of the to the highest degree pop alt-metal bands of the new millennium, scene themselves aside from a crowded plain with a slightly less-negative prospect and unwearying touring. Formed in 1991 in the San Fernando Valley suburb of Calabasas, CA, group members Brandon Boyd (vocals, percussion section), Mike Einziger (guitar), Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance; basso), and José Pasillas (drums) were all tenth grade classmates when they got together. Their early funk-metal sound was heavily influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, simply broadened over the following few old age to integrate cream, rap-metal, post-grunge stone, and detrition alt-metal à la Korn or the Deftones. By the meter the pigeonholing graduated from high schoolhouse day, they had already been playacting all-ages shows around southerly California on a regular footing. In 1995, Incubus added rap music turntablist DJ Lyfe (aka Gavin Koppel) to their batting monastic order and recorded the severally released album Fungus Amongus. That, conjugate with their strong local following, helped the rotary get a consider with Epic low-level Immortal.

Incubus' first major-label release was the six-song EP Enjoy Incubus, which was released in early 1997 and consisted of old demos that were revamped in the studio. Later in the year, their number one full-length album, S.C.I.E.N.C.E., was released. Incubus hit the route with a payback, opening for bands like Korn, Primus, 311, Sublime, and Unwritten Law. By the summer of 1998, the band had amassed enough of a following to soil a slot on that year's Ozzfest tour. They too wound up the year as part of Korn's inaugural address Family Values tour, by which time DJ Lyfe had bypast and been replaced by DJ Kilmore (first key out Chris). With their momentum and exposure lento building, Incubus returned to the studio and delivered their followup album, Make Yourself, in late 1999. The group went right-hand back out on the route, and their stint on the 2000 Ozzfest helped crystallize the new audience that the single "Pardon Me" was pull in. Although Seduce Yourself hardly stony-broke the Top 50 on the album charts, it was a steady trafficker that finally pushed yesteryear the double-platinum saint Mark. The second gear single, "Stellar," was a smaller-sized strike on rock tuner, but the album's biggest vocal didn't hit the airwaves until 2001; "Drive" was a leftfield success that became their first-class honours degree Top Ten hit on the pop charts. Incubus expanded their audience by playing Moby's Area: One package circuit that summer, and with "Push back" motionless fresh in the public's mind, released their next album, Dawn View, in the fall of 2001. It entered the charts at number 2, confirming that Incubus had diligently worked themselves into stardom. "Wish You Were Here," "Nice to Know You," and "Warning" were all popular on rock wireless, and the band naturally toured to a great extent in support -- this prison term as a star.

In former 2003, Incubus became embroiled in a condense dispute with Sony and filed a suit to experience their deal terminated under California labour Party laws. In April, the ring proclaimed the departure of bassist Dirk Lance. Within years, fellow Incubus guitar player Mike Eiziger called upon his Time Lapse Consortium fellow Ben Kenney to be Lance's permanent renewal. The radical remained a part of the Sony imperium, notwithstanding, and released A Crow Left of the Murder on Epic/Immortal in early 2004, which strike number two on the Billboard Top 200. Some touring followed in front Incubus headed dwelling house in November to take a well-deserved get around. The guys worn-out the side by side deuce years on an individual basis exploring things outside of the isthmus -- music, art, picture show, and literature endeavors all included -- though they besides remembered to work on and finish their sixth record album, recorded over a year's clip in both L.A. and Atlanta. The resulting record, Light Grenades, appeared in late November 2006.
